Communication and knowledge transfer: Corona accelerates digital transformation
Video greetings from the home office, virtual trade fairs and conferences via Microsoft Skype, Cisco Webex or Zoom: Since the start of the contact restrictions required by Corona in March 2020, many companies have significantly expanded their digital communication. Data traffic in Germany already increased by ten percent in March, as reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The data stream via video conferencing even grew by 50 percent. In June, the Federal Statistical Office reported an increase in video calls via Skype, WhatsApp and Co. by 15 percent compared to the previous year.
At the same time, traditional trade fairs such as the LogiMAT, GaLaBau or automechanika had to be cancelled in 2020. On the positive side, new opportunities were discovered during the crisis: In some cases, the trade fair organisers found digital ways to bring exhibitors and visitors together. Companies expanded their digital infrastructure and found that success was sometimes possible without costly on-site appointments.
Boosting knowledge via the net
This applies in particular to the entire area of further education and training. E-learning providers are currently enjoying high growth rates. Digital knowledge transfer is establishing itself as a serious alternative to the classic seminar attendance – also because companies want to continue to use the infrastructure built up for their communication. E-learning offers many advantages: It takes place independently of time and place, causes lower costs and the quality of the offer is always the same. In addition, there is interactivity and the possibility to share knowledge in several languages.
